The mission of our organization is the preservation and encouragement of traditional early to mid 20th century popular music; pointing out, where appropriate its relationship to the historic events in progress when the song became a hit. Our activities also include the collection and preservation of early sound recordings and the historical data associated with them. We have amassed more than 10,000 – 78rpm recordings.

Our secondary mission is to make our station facilities available to local high schools for the airing of their concerts and other high school functions. WYAR also encourages both local and distant musicians specializing in traditional popular music that we can record (unless they already have a recording available) to feature on the station. Our facilities are also available to town government needs upon request.

The staff and management of WYAR believe strongly that such musical names as George M. Cohan, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Lorenz Hart, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Sigmund Romberg, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller just to name a few form a unique treasure that must be preserved for all to enjoy.

Historians have been able to preserve the great names and events of our history. It is up to organizations like WYAR to do the same for our music.
